History

When Stoffel Stoumann accompanied his father into the district when he was yet a little boy, he surely did not imagine what would be accomplished near the little town of Vredendal on the West Coast of South Africa by himself, his wife Gesie and their two sons, Napoleon and Gielie.

Harvests, consisting of Colombar, Chenin blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet, Shiraz, etc.,  were delivered in its entirety to Spruitdrift and Vredendal Wine Cellars, until the Stoumanns established the smallest registered red wine cellar in the Olifants River region. They started marketing their first 2 800 bottles of Cabernet in September of 1998.  It was decided later, as duties concerning the winery became extensive, that Napoleon would be responsible for wine making, while  the properties would be managed by Gielie(in memoriam)

Erik Schlünz joined Stoumann's Winery in 2008 as manager and winemaker. The cellar is being expanded to accommodate 500 tons of  grapes, for the production of both white and red wines.
